Where to Play Pickleball in Washington DC

The most frequently used courts are Turkey Thicket in NE, Palisades in NW and Jefferson Middle School in SW, but there are many other locations throughout the city. Indoor access changes in the summer because of the DC Public Schools programs for children. We will update with those calendared changes as soon as they become known each year.

Note that all DPR recreation center sites require registration to play via DPR’s website, so go to this web address, enroll with DPR, and select the sites and programs at which you want to play:

Palisades Recreation Center, 5200 Sherier Place NW 

Off-street and on-street parking

Outdoors: 

Four hybrid courts + net sets and balls in locked storage bin; levels 2.5 to 3.5

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday 9:30 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. 
  • Saturday – Odd numbered from 7:30 to 10 am; even numbered from 10:15 am to 12:45 pm

Indoors: 

One full sized court and slightly smaller training court; net sets and balls in locked storage closets, for beginners and advanced beginners

  • Tuesday, Thursday 12:30 p.m.- 2:30 p.m., except during June, July, and August

Off-street and on-street parking

Outdoors: 

Two courts + net sets and balls locked in storage bin

  • Monday through Saturday 6 am to noon

Indoors:

  • One court + net set and balls available via front desk
  • Monday 10 to noon
  • Friday 11 to 2
  • Saturday 11:30 to 2:30

Edgewood Recreation Center, 301 Franklin Street NE

On-street parking; Indoors play Tuesday and Thursday from 12 to 2 on multiple courts, Outdoor play on demand – equipment indoors and on request

Friendship Recreation Center, 4500 Van Ness Street NW

On-street parking 

Outdoors:

Two hybrid courts + net sets and balls locked in bins. Beginners and advanced beginners.

  • Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Newark Street Park, 3307-3499 39th St NW On-street parking
 
Outdoors: Three hybrid courts. Wheeled nets locked to fence. Bring pickleballs.
  • Tuesday (3.5 and above), Thursday (Advanced Beginners), Saturday (Open) from 9 am to noon.
 

Emery Heights Recreation Center, 5701 Georgia Ave NW

Off-street and On-street parking 

Indoors: 

Three courts + net sets and balls locked in a storage closet. Levels 2.5 – 3.5

  • Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 11:00 am to 2:00 p.m. except during June, July, and August

Takoma Recreation Center, 300 Van Buren St NW

On-street parking only 

Outdoors:

Levels 2.5 to 3.5

  • Any time on two dedicated pickleball courts converted from junior tennis courts. Lights available until 10 pm, bring your own balls.

Hearst Recreation Center, Quebec and Idaho Streets NW

On-street parking only

Outdoors:

On either side of tennis court #1, two pickleball courts. Net sets and balls are locked in a storage bin. Levels advanced beginners through intermediates.

  • Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. 
  • Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Volta Park, 1555 34th St NW, Washington, DC,

Outdoors: 

One court set up on basketball courts. Net sets and balls in a locked storage bin

  • Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday noon to 3 pm as of September 1 through May 14.

Jefferson Middle School, 9th Street and Maine Avenue SW

On-street parking only 

Outdoors: 

Two dedicated courts and four hybrid courts available. Net sets and balls in locked storage bin.

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday 5:30 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. 
  • Saturday 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

King Greenleaf Recreation Center, 201 N Street SW

On-street parking only 

Outdoors: 

  • Two dedicated pickleball courts open anytime. Bring your own paddles and balls.

Indoors:

Net sets and balls locked in storage closet, level 2.5 to 3.5. 

  • Tuesday and Thursday 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. and Thursday evening 6 to 8 on three full-sized courts except from June 28 through Labor Day.

Arthur Capper Recreation Center, 1000 5th St SE

Indoors: 

Net sets and balls in locked storage closet, levels 2.5 to 3.5

  • Monday and Wednesday 10:00 to noon. on three full sized courts, except from June 28 through Labor Day.

Wednesdays and Thursdays from 12 to 2. Beginners and advanced beginners on one indoor court.

Rosedale Recreation Center, 1701 Gales St NE

On-street parking 

Indoors: 

Net sets and balls in locked storage closet, levels 2.5 to 3.5.

  • Wednesdays and Fridays from 12:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. on three full sized courts, except from June 29 through September 5 
On-Street parking.
Indoor:
  • Monday from 6 pm to 8 pm and Thursday 7 pm to 8:50 pm
  • Three full sized courts. Nets and balls locked in storage closet. Levels 2.5 to 3.5.

Friday 6 to 8 p.m. indoors only. Three courts available.

  • Tuesdays and Thursdays 12:15 to 2:15.

  • First come first served for four PB courts on tennis courts #3 and #6. Two wheeled net sets available.
  • Portable nets available in DPR center to sign out.
