Where to Play Pickleball in Washington DC

The most frequently used courts are Turkey Thicket in NE, Palisades in NW and Jefferson Middle School in SW, but there are many other locations throughout the city. Indoor access changes in the summer because of the DC Public Schools programs for children. We will update with those calendared changes as soon as they become known each year.

Note that all DPR recreation center sites require registration to play via DPR’s website, so go to this web address, enroll with DPR, and select the sites and programs at which you want to play:

Washington DC Pickleball Locations

  • Palisades Recreation Center, 5200 Sherier Place NW, off-street and on-street parking
    • Outdoors MWF 9:30 to noon and Saturday 8 to 10:30 on four courts marked on two tennis courts; net sets and balls in locked storage bin; levels 2.5 to 3.5
    • Indoors Tuesday and Thursday 12:30 to 2:30 = beginners and advance beginner players, evening = advanced players) on one full sized court and a slightly smaller training court; net set and balls in locked storage closet, levels 2.0 to 2.5
  • Chevy Chase Community Center, 5601 Connecticut Ave NW, off-street and on-street parking
    • Outdoors M through Saturday, 7:30 to 9:30 am in spring-summer-fall  on two courts on converted basketball court; net sets and balls in locked storage bin; level 3.0 (mostly Tues, Thurs, and Sat) to 4.0 + (mostly MWF).
  • Friendship Recreation Center, 4500 Van Ness Street NW, on-street parking
    • Outdoors MWF from 9:30 to noon on two courts marked on one of the two tennis courts. Net sets and balls in locked bin. Levels 2.5 to 3.5
  • Emery Heights Recreation Center, 5701 Georgia Ave NW, off-street and on-street parking
    • Indoors Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays on three full sized courts 12:30 to 3:30; net sets and balls in locked storage closet, levels 2.5 to 3.5
  • Takoma Recreation Center, 300 Van Buren St NW, on-street parking only
    • Outdoors at any time on two courts converted from junior tennis courts, no lights, bring your own balls, levels 2.5 to 3.5
  • Hearst Recreation Center, Quebec and Idaho Streets NW, on-street parking only
    • Outdoors on court #1 Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 to 11:30 am and Saturdays from 8 to 10:30 am. First come/first served on court #1 at other times, but not 3 to 6 pm on Wednesdays and Fridays. Two courts on one tennis court. Net sets and balls are in locked storage bin for which members are given the combination, levels 2.5 to 3.5
  • Volta Park, 1555 34th St NW, Washington, DC, on-street parking only
    • Outdoors from 9:30 to 12:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays and on Saturdays from 10 to 1 on one court set up on basketball courts.
    • Net sets and balls in a locked storage bin.
  • Jefferson Middle School, 9th Street and Maine Avenue SW, on-street parking only
    • Outdoors from 5:30 to 8 am MWF and 8:30 to 11:30 am Saturday. Four courts available.
    • Net sets and balls in a locked storage bin.
  • King Greenleaf Recreation Center, 201 N Street SW, on-street parking only
    • Indoors on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:15 to 2:30 on three full-sized courts except from June 28 through November 14; net sets and balls in locked storage closet, levels 2.5 to 3.5
    • Outdoors open anytime; two dedicated courts. Bring paddles and balls.
  • Arthur Capper Recreation Center, 1000 5th St SE, on-street parking only
    • Indoors on Tuesdays from 12:15 to 2:30 on three full sized courts, except from June 28 through November 14; net sets and balls in locked storage closet, levels 2.5 to 3.5
  • Garfield Park, 1-299 South Carolina Ave SE, on-street parking only
    • Check with Pope Barrow re: play days and times (mpb56054@yahoo.com). Net sets and balls in locked storage bin, levels 2.5 to 3.5
  • Hillcrest Recreation Center, 3100 Denver Street SE, parking lot available; Thursdays from 12:30 to 2, mostly beginners and advanced beginners.
  • Rosedale Recreation Center, 1701 Gales St NE, on-street parking only
    • Indoors on Wednesdays and Fridays from 12:15 to 2:15 pm on three full sized courts, except from June 29 through September 5; net sets and balls in locked storage closet, levels 2.5 to 3.5
  • Sherwood Recreation Center, 640 10th St NE, small off-street parking lot + on-street parking. Indoors on Wednesdays (6 to 7:30 pm) and Thursdays (5:30 to 7:30 pm) on three full sized courts, except from June 16 through September 5; net sets and balls in locked storage closet, levels 2.5 to 3.5
  • North Michigan Park Recreation Center, 1333 Emerson Street NE, parking lot and street parking; Fridays from 5 to 7:30. Mixed skill levels.
  • Edgewood Recreation Center, 300 Evarts St NE, on-street parking only
    • Indoors on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 am to 9 am, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:15 to 2:15 pm, and Saturdays from 2 to 4:30 pm, except from June 17 through September 5, on two full-sized courts; net sets and balls in locked storage closet, levels 3.0 to 4.0+
  • Turkey Thicket Recreation Center, 1100 Michigan Ave NE, off-street and on-street parking
    • Outdoors at any time on four dedicated courts, with lights, bring your own balls, levels 2.5 to 4.0. New reserved times at four dedicated courts plus another two PB courts on one tennis court on Monday evenings from 6 to 8, Saturday mornings from 9 to 11, and Sunday afternoons from 4 to 6. Portable nets for two extra courts in locked storage bin with balls.
